1.   What Will the Shed be Used For?

Why are you building a shed in the first place? Do you need a space to store all your domestic tools or will it need to hold hay, livestock or machinery for your farm?
Make sure the shed you pick is the right size to suit your needs and consider how much space you require – both now and in the future – for the items that need to be stored.

Are there any trees in the area where you plan to place the shed? If so, take note that the growing roots of a tree could negatively affect the shed’s foundation over time. Overhanging branches could also cause leaf litter to clog up the drainage on your shed if you’re unable to keep the roof clear of foliage.

If you think the trees will be close enough to the shed that they could result in these problems, consider cutting the trees down or choosing another location for your shed.

4. How Do You Want the Shed to Look?

Aesthetics is more important for some people than others, and this largely comes down to where the shed will be located and
its purpose. If it’s a domestic shed, you may want the exterior colours to match your house. You may also want to consider the style of your property and ensure you get a shed that’s complementary to your home.

If the shed will be functioning as a hobby room or a detached office, you may want to include features that make it look homely such as sliding glass doors, windows or even an undercover patio.

5.   What Features Should be Included with Your Shed?

How much benefit you get out of a shed also comes down to the features that go with it. A wide variety of features can be included with sheds such as:
